A SPECIAL SUMMER SOLSTICE PRACTICE —

Return to Light

A summer evening in community centred around the sacred tradition of 108 Sun Salutations; a moving meditation rooted in breath, presence, and shared practice.

Wednesday 24th June, 18:45 - 21:15
at Acton Trussell Community Centre, ST17 0RY

About the Evening

Our evening will begin with grounding breathwork and intention setting before moving into the collective rhythm of the 108 Sun Salutations practice. Through repetition, breath, and steady movement, the practice gradually becomes a moving meditation; creating space for reflection, release, and renewed presence.

This evening is not about perfection or performance, and there is no expectation to complete all 108 rounds. The practice will be approached steadily and intentionally, with moments of pause, stillness, and reflection woven throughout. You will be encouraged to move in a way that feels supportive and sustainable for your body, with space to rest, modify, and return whenever needed.

We will close our practice with meditation, stillness, and an invitational mantra practice, followed by nourishing refreshments and time to connect in community.

The Sacred Tradition of 1o8 Sun Salutations

Rooted in ancient yogic tradition, the practice of 108 Sun Salutations, known as Surya Namaskar, offers a moving meditation in breath, repetition, and presence. It is often practised during seasonal transitions such as the summer and winter solstices and the spring and autumn equinoxes.

The number 108 holds sacred significance across many Eastern spiritual traditions. Mala beads used in meditation and prayer practices contain 108 beads, and in yogic philosophy there are said to be 108 sacred energy lines, or nadis, that converge at the heart centre. The number symbolises wholeness, connection, and completion. Within the practice itself, repetition becomes meditation; an opportunity to move beyond the thinking mind and into the simplicity of breath and movement.

A practice of devotion, rhythm, and community.

Who This Practice Is For

This evening is open to all levels of experience. Whether this is your first experience of practising 108 Sun Salutations, or a practice you return to often, you are warmly welcomed exactly as you are.

You may feel drawn to this practice as a way of reconnecting through movement and breath, marking a seasonal transition with intention, or stepping away from the fast pace of daily life for an evening of presence and shared practice.

You do not need to be flexible to attend, though a foundational level of mobility is recommended. Modifications, rest, and moments of pause will be encouraged throughout.
